Traditionally, arts and culture funding has stemmed from wealthy patrons, which has led to the exclusivity of the art sector. Art that is supported by patrons rarely encourages public consumption, rarely invites people from all walks of life to participate and enjoy it. What we lack today is art for the community, art and culture that is available to the samaaj, that rejoices in our cultures and communities and creates spaces for all of us to experience them. This is a neglected area that the philanthropic community can step in to bring more attention.
